Choice Book Report 1 - Far from Gringo Land

I read Far from Gringo Land by Edward Myers. In this book there is a character named Rick. Rick is a very hard working, quick learner, truthful, confident, well mannered, and charming person. Rick is very hard working because he needed to carry hundreds of sand bags, cement mixings, hundreds of stone bricks, and many other heavy things only by hand. He also had to shovel lots of cement to make it even and quickly run to get more and more water.
Rick was a quick learner because he had to make walls with bricks. He was showed how to do it only once and was left to do it alone. The people who he worked with said he did an amazing job. Even Rick felt he was getting the hang of it. Even with cuts and blister on his hands, Rick kept working and didn’t complain.
Rick was very truthful because a man wanted help to do something illegal to get money but Rick would not help the man. Even when Rick was bribed with lots of money he would not help.
Another good attribute that Rick had was that he was very well mannered. He was well mannered because when he was with the family that was building, he tried to be careful of what to say around them. He always said "thank you" whenever he was given something or helped.
A good characteristic that Rick had was he was very charming. Whenever girls walked past him they smiled and waved. One girl asked her to come over to her house and became great friends. He did have a girlfriend back in Colorado but broke up with her because he had to go to Mexico.
These characteristics are good examples that make Rick a very interesting character.

Point of view- In this book it is told in third person. If it was told in first perspective, it would have been more difficult to read because he is doing more than talking. Rick is building a house so it is more descriptive with third person. It would maybe skip a little of what he has to do or is doing if it would have been told in first person because the character may say what he's thinking more than what he's doing. At the start of the book, it was hard to read because I am so used to first person. In addition, normally beginning of books tell about the character, this book could mostly only tell about physical appearance and not so much about the character itself.

The Vikings

Saturday mourning, around 8:00 A.M my dad and I left to observe the Minnesota Vikings practice. The Vikings invited me along with five others. Five minutes after we arrived, my soccer teammate arrived. Then a guy named Brad, the communnity director showed us around because we were early. I had the chance to sit in the owner's heated leather chair. The walls were elaborated with the teams past legends. Next we met the players. My heart was pumping so hard I could hear it in my head. I got the legendary Brett Favre's autograph and a picture with him. I also got Adrian Peterson's and lots of other great players. I will never forget this day.

National Champions

It was my second year with the Minnesota Thunder and sixth year playing power soccer overall. The previous years I have took 4th, 3rd, 2nd and our whole team knew, it was our turn to be first. The day before the championship, we had two more tough games to play. First up, North Georgia Screamin' Eagles. We have played them before and they have been a tough match in the previous years. The 1st half both teams went scoreless. 3 minutes into the 2nd half, the most unpredictable happened. I was helping defend the goal when a bounce back shot went in. They scored. Lots of things were going in my head. We knew we had to score. We kept pounding in shots. Nothing would work. The clock showed under 2 minutes left. Everyone knew, even the crowd knew, we had to do something, and fast. We got it down in there end and the goalie charged the ball. It went right to me. I hit the ball with my gaurd as hard as I could. The 32'' ball went perfectly in the 19' wide goal. The crowd went crazy, and our team went crazier, but it wasn't over yet . We went into 2 overtimes. Nobody could score. Still, tied at the end. Therefore, began the first shootout in my life. It's 3-3 in the shootout. If we score the next shot, we'll win. If not, more rounds will begin. My teammate Nick, who turned 16 that day, scores the game winning goal. What a sweet birthday present! We hit gaurds and smiled and congratulated Nick. I was very shaky at the end. The next game, ANOTHER nail-biting shoutout. We win 3-1. Next, the game that matters the most. Championship game. We are facing Indy Cruisers. We beat them in the regional championship, so they'll know are gameplan by now. That doesn't stop the Minnesota Thunder though. We stuck it to them right away, we scored in the first 10 minutes. Indy Cruiser's fans were getting loud, but our fans were louder. We were restless, we score again. Most of the game, the ball was on their side. I get a sweet pass from my teammate Pete. I don't even think, I score. The game ends 3-0. A while after all the high fives and pictures, we lined up to shake hands with the Cruiser's. That's how a championship game ends.
